Our Patron – Sandra
I came to know Sandra Bauernfeind in 2009 when she came to do a six month internship at Rainbow House. I was intrigued by this 19 year old who seemed so matured in many ways! During her stay at Rainbow House, I also had the opportunity to meet her parents Erika & Karl as well as friends Gaby & Norbet and their son Daniel. This aquaintance has resulted in a friendship that has been nurtured over these years!
Sandra has proved to be invaluable to Rainbow House and me personally! She is an inspiration and a role model not only to the kids of Rainbow House but to many of her peers in Germany and the many friends here in South Africa! Once you get to know her, the question is: What is there NOT to love!
In 2011 Sandra returned to South Africa and Rainbow House with 9 other German volunteers including her brother Fabian! They had raised R100 000.00 and the ten of them transformed Rainbow House! They called their project: GLIMMER OF HOPE! She has been instrumental in connecting us with Human Aid in Germany, the school in Bavaria, Weill, where her friend of hers, Anja, is teaching, and so many more people both in Germany and in South Africa!
2012 and 2013 saw her raising funds for basic necesseties as well as school fees for the children. The correct school for the child is VERY important as a child who has been traumatised CANNOT cope in a class with 50 other kids, so, once again Sandra raised funds so that these children can attend a private school with only 15 to 20 children in a class!
2014 was the best ever! She raised not only much needed finance for school fees, uniforms and stationery but she also raised R125 000.00 towards our very own vehicle for Rainbow House!
Sandra is a “force” to be reckoned with and she is a Ray of Hope, too many children who would otherwise NOT have a future! For all of the above and more, she was chosen to be our RAINBOW OF HOPE PATRON. We are indeed honoured that she accepted this designation! She is an inspiration as an AMBASSADOR of and for Rainbow of Hope! THANK YOU SANDRA!
2019 Update: 2014 saw Sandra marry Benjamin and this year their beautiful daughter Isabel was born! Despite being a brand new mommy, she still raises awareness around the needs of the children of Rainbow House and also our need for a home for Assisted Independant Living. Together with her family, they are still impacting the lives of the children at Rainbow House through friends, family and others in Germany.
2021 Update: This year Sandra gave birth to another daughter Gabrielle. They are still actively involved in the life and love of Rainbow of Hope.
2024 Update: Last year Sandra moved into her own home that she and her husband built. They are still hands and hearts involved at Rainbow of Hope! She is constantly looking at how she can rally in donations from family and friends. Sandra organises funding from Germany from family and friends through German Human Aide…another way of keeping us totally transparent and ethical. Thank you Sandra & family. We value having you as part of the fund raising team for Rainbow of Hope!
